Easy Ground Turkey Hamburger Helper

A creamy and comforting one-pan dinner featuring lean ground turkey, elbow macaroni, and mixed vegetables, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni (dry)
  • 2 cups chicken broth (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or unsweetened non-dairy milk)
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (frozen or fresh; peas/carrots/corn work well)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional; cheddar or Monterey Jack suggested)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground turkey and break it into small pieces with a spatula. Cook until no pink remains and the meat starts to brown, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir to coat the meat and toast the spices for about 30 seconds so they bloom.
  3. Add the dry elbow macaroni, chicken broth, and mixed vegetables to the skillet. Stir so the pasta is submerged in the liquid and spread everything into an even layer.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Cover or partially cover the skillet and simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  5. Pour in the milk and stir. Cook for another 1–2 minutes to warm through and create a creamier sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  6. If you like, sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top and let it melt before serving. Serve hot.

Notes

Use low-sodium broth for better salt control. Frozen vegetables can go straight in without thawing. Adjust cooking time if using whole-wheat or gluten-free pasta.
