Football Cupcakes

Bite-sized chocolate cupcakes decorated to look like little footballs, perfect for game day celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients for cupcakes (as per box instructions — usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • 2 cups buttercream frosting
  • Green food coloring (gel)
  • White fondant or icing (for decoration)
  • Cupcake liners
  • Football toppers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to the temperature listed on the cake mix box and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Prepare the cake batter according to the box instructions, mixing until just combined.
  3. Divide batter evenly into liners and bake as directed on the box (typically 15-20 minutes).
  4. Remove cupcakes from the oven and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Tint the buttercream frosting with green food coloring until desired color is achieved.
  6. Frost cooled cupcakes with the green buttercream.
  7. Roll small pieces of white fondant into football shapes, or pipe football outlines with white icing.
  8. Place one football on each frosted cupcake and add optional plastic football toppers.

Notes

If you prefer from-scratch, swap the box mix for your favorite chocolate cupcake recipe. For dairy-free, use vegan buttercream and a dairy-free cake mix.
