Shrimp and Grits

A Southern comfort dish featuring creamy, cheesy grits topped with seasoned shrimp.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs large shrimp
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 3/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Bring water, whole milk, and chicken broth to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the stone-ground grits and cook according to package instructions, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  3. Stir in the cheese, butter, and heavy cream until well combined.
  4. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a skillet.
  5. Add garlic, onion, green bell pepper, and green onions, sautéing until soft and fragrant.
  6. Toss in the shrimp, cooking until pink and opaque.
  7. Stir in Cajun seasoning, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and lemon juice.
  8. Serve the sautéed shrimp over the cheesy grits, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

You can swap shrimp for other seafood or adjust spices to your heat preference.
