Pizza Tot Casserole

A comforting and easy casserole that combines browned beef, marinara sauce, and crispy tater tots for a nostalgic dish that delights the whole family.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Optional toppings: pepperoni, olives, bell pepper, green onions, mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium. Add the ground beef and diced onion; cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Drain excess grease and return beef and onion to skillet.
  4. Pour in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for a few minutes.
  5. Spread beef mixture evenly in the baking dish and sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Arrange tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese, then sprinkle remaining cheese over the tots.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until tots are golden and cheese is bubbling.
  8. Add any optional toppings and bake an additional 3–5 minutes.
  9. Let the casserole sit for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter or vegetarian option, use lean ground turkey or plant-based crumbles. Be sure to drain the cooked beef well to avoid a greasy casserole.
