Refried Black Beans

A versatile and creamy side dish made from black beans, perfect for tacos, rice, and more.

Ingredients

  • 1 can black beans (or cooked black beans)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: cheese, sour cream, cilantro

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Drain and rinse the canned black beans if you’re using them.
  3. Add the black beans to the skillet and heat them through.
  4. Using a potato masher, mash the beans to your desired consistency—smooth or chunky.
  5. Stir in the garlic powder, cumin, salt, and pepper until well blended.
  6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the spices to infuse into the beans.
  7. Serve warm, topped with cheese, sour cream, or cilantro if you like.

Notes

For a smoother texture, consider blending the beans in a food processor after mashing. A squeeze of lime juice can brighten the flavors.
